Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe

Cass Lake, Minnesota

The Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe is expanding its solar PV capacity with the installation of approximately 534 kW of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to power approximately nine existing and currently-being-constructed Tribal buildings, saving over $2.5M over the life of the systems.

This project will empower Leech Lake to become more sustainable, provide long term resilience, lessen dependency on fossil fuels, and redirect monetary savings to future energy saving projects. It will also promote Leech Lake as a leader in the region regarding sustainability and smart energy use. The nine locations were selected using our Solar Master Plan document and solar contractor, building upon our foundation of analysis to take this next crucial step: leading as a conscious government to be more mindful of energy use, consumption, and production.
