Red Cliff, Wisconsin
The Resilience and Prosperity in Rural Northern Wisconsin Project is a proposed renewable energy partnership between the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, the State of Wisconsin, Bayfield County, and local units of government in the Towns of Port Wing, Washburn, Clover, Drummond, Grandview, and Kelly, and the Village of Mason in Bayfield County, WI.
The project would support the procurement and installation of 23 solar micro grids and battery energy storage systems (BESS), and 14 electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) systems in these communities, and is anticipated to be funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Clean Energy Demonstration (OCED). These proposed systems will deliver clear and measurable renewable energy benefits and will serve as a replicable framework that promotes increased energy resilience across the state. The Red Cliff Band’s commitment to this project includes (2) Micro grid/BESS/EVSE installations; one at the Red Cliff Community Health Center, and one at the new Red Cliff Tribal Transportation Facility. These systems will strengthen Red Cliff’s grid resilience by reducing impacts to critical community services during power disruptions and will serve as major achievements in Red Cliff’s transition to a clean energy future.
